I've been building websites as a freelancer consistently since 2005. Web design was part of my day job between 2016–2024. What excites me the most about the field is helping people start their business by working out branding and visual identity for the first time. It's also satisfying to help eliminate operational issues by implementing design enhancements or technology improvements.
My personal interests have always been a cross between art and computers. I've always been "the computer guy" who people go to with any problem. I'm a former recording studio owner, songwriter and music producer. I did a lot of drawing and painting while earning my B.S. in Art Practices while simultaneously taking every possible class I could involving videography, animation, graphic design and digital painting.
I worked as a graphic designer in the print industry for 10 years, then started working as a Digital Marketer in 2021. While I have a solid foundation in HTML/CSS and have managed content for several CMSs, it wasn't until 2024 that I took the leap into learning Wordpress PHP and vanilla Javascript. It's something I've always wanted to do, but I always made excuses like, "well, coding it hard, and I'm more of an artist." It's taken me this long to accept that learning how to code doesn't inhibit creativity—it removes barriers and expands the possibilities.
I pushed my skills a lot in 2024—2025. For Softstar, I managed a projected migrating their Magento 2 theme to modern frameworks Tailwind CSS and Alpine JS. As a result, the mobile version of their website got 4x faster. Then for NW Drivers Ed, I built my first custom Wordpress theme featuring a Spanish language variation to better serve their clientele.
